Great movie but…why assault a fort over open fully visible ground during daylight initially when you come to the conclusion that a night raid/assault would have been probably the better approach? Still, the FX team had a good time shooting that science!

2:48 Look, I love the movie as much as anyone, and I know this quote by Trimble is what actually he said about Gettyburg after the war and its a pretty good one...but here, it seems shoehorned in just to have it in the movie, and frankly more than a little ridiculous that he'd be sending a messenger (presumably to Lee) to tell him about how hard his men were fighting *while the battle is happening all around him*. Realistically, it'd have been something more like "send support immediately!" or "attack going as planned, will proceed."

And remember no CGI here. This is as close as anyone ever will come to what it actually looked like. I believe the number of Confederates in this reenactiment were about one third that actual totals from the real Picketts Charge. So basically multiply everything you see X 3. The confederate artillery shown here was the largest collection of civil war ever for a reenactiment but it was still less than a fifth of the guns used in real life

The movie is great. Pickets charge is the best scene from any movie about the age of rifles. From the cannonade, to the rebs forming up and going past the trees and the guns. The music and the over head picture. Then we see the horror of war as every union gun open up.
